Kaj Francks Landscape – Glass Theme

Nuutajärvi Glass Village Summer exhibition 2011

How does one get close to an icon? In what way does one process a legacy? How is the past present in your work?

The answers to these questions can be found in the Exhibition Kaj Francks Landscape held by the glass artists from Nuutajärvi.

Each artist shows their relationship to designer/artist Kaj Franck (1911-1989) whos birth 100 years ago is being celebrated this year. Franck worked in the Nuutajärvi Glass Factory from 1950 till upon his death. Among his close colleagues was Oiva Toikka and Kerttu Nurminen. From the younger generation of glass artists Markku Salo also got to know Franck personally. Kaj Franck left a legacy of his work, history and art philosophy that has left an imprint on glass artists today.

Kaj Francks Landscape – Glass Theme shows recent work by the artists of Nuutajärvi Glass Coop NuGO where as Kerttu Nurminen and Oiva Toikka are invited guest artists.
