Summer Exhibition 2013: Celebration - Nuutajärvi and Arabia artist communities

The Nuutajärvi Glass village summer exhibition Celebration – Nuutajärvi and Arabia artist communities honours the anniversaries of two Finnish companies that also have succeeded internationally in the field of arts and crafts. Year 2013 is the 220 years jubilee for Nuutajärvi glassworks and 140 years jubilee for Arabia factory. The exhibition shows glass and ceramic art work made by the independently working artisans, artists and designers from Nuutajärvi and Arabia.

Nuutajärvi glassworks, founded in 1793, is the oldest glass factory in operation in Finland. Also a group of independent glassblowers, designers and glass artists live and work in Nuutajärvi.

The Arabia porcelain factory was founded in 1873. The Arabia art department society was established in 2003 to cherish the traditions of artistic and cultural heritage of ceramics.

Nuutajärvi and Arabia artists have collaborated since 1950, working on different art and design projects. Major part of the exhibited glass art works has been inspired by this jubilee. Arabia ceramic artists will present their work from the past ten years. This includes both serial production and unique art works. Their ceramics has also been used in many public art works and these are exhibited with photographs and text.

Sara Hulkkonen, Alma Jantunen, Marika Kinnunen, Kerttu Nurminen, Jonas Paajanen, Anu Penttinen, Johannes Rantasalo, Markku Salo, Tero Silver, Jenni Sorsa, Lea Swantz, Heikki Viinikainen and Matti Vilppula.

Artists from Arabia:

Fujiwo Ishimoto, Heikki Orvola, Heini Riitahuhta, Heljä Liukko-Sundström, Kati Tuominen-Niittylä, Kristina Riska, Pekka Paikkari, Kim Simonsson and Saana Murtti.

Exhibition open every day 9.6.–31.8.2013.
